phantom vibration syndrome

The perception that one's phone is vibrating or ringing when it is not; often experienced when someone is anxious about missing calls or messages.

Examples:

  • I keep feeling my phone buzzing in my pocket, but there's nothing there; I must be experiencing phantom vibration syndrome.
  • She dropped her phone and for a moment thought it was gone, a classic case of phantom vibration syndrome.

cognitive dissonance

The mental discomfort experienced by a person who holds two or more contradictory beliefs, values, or ideas, often arising from their thoughts and feelings about a situation.
